The Scottish Women's Rural Institute.  Or the "Rural" as known as in these parts.  I've been tagging along as a visitor with my friend Karen for the last few months so this month I joined and tonight I helped out as hostess.  This involved making sandwiches, pots of tea and putting a whole host of cakes onto plates.  It also meant serving all of the afore mentioned items to 25 hungry ladies.  Tonight's talk was all about Fair Trade and Donna and Mark from the Co-Op came along to tell us all about it.

Unfortunately it didn't quite go to plan as Donna had only just been given the new layout for presentations and Mark had never done one before.  They were like a comedy duo and I haven't laughed so much in ages. I think the only thing I learnt was that the Co-Op were the first supermarket to sell Fair Trade bananas back in 1994.

We got to taste a variety of different chocolates and sample some very nice red wine.  Lucky me :0)

Who said that the WI is just for old ladies?

  2. Sounds like good fun :) I had been thinking of joining the WI here but it looks like the one in our town has closed down. Am looking a little further afield now.

  4. Nice to find another blogger from the area I grew up in. We intend to move back there before too long (just got to pay younger child through uni first!). I've considered joining the WI when we do move, so was interested to read this.
