Venturing Forth

It's taking a while but we are gradually venturing a little further from home and into places with 'other people'.

I don't mind admitting I have liked being away from crowds and noise for the last 5 months and I'm in no rush to get back to it.

We took the plunge a few weekends ago and went out for lunch at Hickory's in Southport.

It was well organised, well spaced and we didn't feel squashed in or rushed.  We felt it was a good choice for our first meal out.

We have also been returning to our National Trust visits.  I book on a Friday morning for the following weekend and so far it's worked out well.  Neither Chirk Castle or Dunham Massey have been over crowded and there was a relaxed feeling to place.

We have been to the Zoo twice since it re-opened and again it was a good experience.  They really have thought the area out well and there are only small queues to go into the inside areas.  We stayed out of those and opted for walking to all the areas we don't normally go to.  On our trip last weekend, our time slot was 2pm and we stayed the whole afternoon.  By 5.30pm it felt like we had the whole zoo to ourselves.
It turns out, afternoons are the best time to see my favourite animals too so it's win, win.

We have our fist weekend away planned but I'm still a little apprehensive about staying somewhere overnight.

Are you happy to be out and about or, like me, are you happy to take one day at at time and not rush back in?

Blogger seems to be playing up today as my layout has gone all wonky!! :0)

  1. Having to book things in advance is a bit of a bonus to me! You know you'll get in, plus you know it won't be overcrowded. We are taking baby steps back into the outside world, but like you we have a few days away booked for early September which will be a big change. I shall definitely be packing my own pillow, not sure I want to sleep on someone else's just yet!

    1. Taking your own pillow. I never thought of that. I'll have to make sure we pack them now :0)

  2. I too am having technology challenges this Monday & not just with Blogger. You'll hear me repeating "technology is my friend" at least 100 times today! We have yet to venture to eating at a restaurant, either inside or out - we have yet to even move to take away. Thankfully my friend is at her cottage again which gives me access to her gorgeous gardens & pool, kind of a get away holiday for us.

  3. we do not have indoor dining yet. all dining is outside or takeout. so far it is just too hot for dining outdoors and i am just a little bit afraid to eat food prepared by others. we are mostly home, bike rides, car rides, thats about it. i would like to go on a day trip...we are very busy right now with a large fire we had at our business park. that is keeping us close to home too!!

    1. The day we went to the restaurant there were only three tables being used inside as most of the dining was outdoors. That made us feel better about venturing out. I was sorry to hear about the fire. I hope it's sorted soon.

  4. We're still staying home for the most part. I meet up with a couple of girls now but I know they're being quite sensible about it all too. We've not had a day trip out yet (which would be lovely) but the numbers are still a bit high here. School's back for staff-students start back on the 8th but we've opted for the virtual route for now. Glad to hear you've been able to get out and about little 😊

    1. Hello you. It's nice to hear from you. We're only venturing to places where there aren't a lot of people and I'm still not keen on travelling too far. Kids are back in school tomorrow so it'll be an interesting day. Hope your two are managing with the virtual choice. :0)
