Visitors!!

We had people, yes, actual people in our garden on Saturday.  The Young Man had 5 of his friends around for a few drinks and a catch up.  It's the first time they've seen each other, in person, in over a year.  Seeing them on a webcam apparently doesn't count.

We had a one way system in place,  they socially distanced as much as possible, there was sanitiser by the bucket load along with disinfectant spray for handles etc.  Hubby and I stayed indoors and kept a low profile.

They're all really sensible lads and most of them are being tested twice a week at work so are taking all the right precautions necessary.  The silly thing is, we had all these measures in place when next week they could all meet up in a beer garden and all sit together for a few hours and it would be legal.

Just so the neighbours were aware that we were having people round, and didn't call the police to complain, I put a message on the village Facebook page letting them know and asking that, if anyone wanted to speak to me about it, they could pop round for a chat.  :0)

Along with the alcohol, there was also homemade pizza and spicy chicken wings to round off the afternoon.

I feel that the younger generation have found lockdown a lot more difficult than us oldies.  They all seem to be a lot more sociable nowadays.  Or maybe, now,  I'm just happier when I stay home!!

It was a pleasure to hear them all laughing and joking.  It's been too long.

  1. Oh I bet it was lovely to hear them enjoying being together outside with a beer and a pizza - I agree, these restrictions are hard for us, but so much harder for the younger generation when at that age everything normally revolves around socialising.
It seems weird rules that I can have a workman into my house for the day yet I can't have a friend! Isn't it typical that the minute we can socialise in our gardens, we get a blast of icy weather? From looking at the news, it didn't deter a lot of people though ;-)

    1. They enjoyed it so much they are already planning another one for when the rules change again in May. I think they're hoping it will be a bit warmer this time. I had to get fleecy blankets out for some of them!!

  2. Laughter from your young man I am sure was such a delightful sound. I thought in Britain right now you could meet in the garden with friends, was it the bathroom that was out of bounds? That was very courteous of you to notify the neighbours. I chuckled at your safety supplies for use, how many of us have the same still life photo of the times.

    1. Luckily we have a downstairs toilet right next to the back door which meant they could come in and out without coming into the rest of the house. The rules are that going to the toilet should be avoided but if you do need to use it , you should wear a mask in the house, wash your hands (as if you wouldn't) and avoid contact with other people in the house. I think we nailed that one :0)

  3. Isn't it lovely to hear the laughter and see the young people enjoying themselves. (I sound so old!!) It sounds like your young man and his friends are all quite sensible and you were certainly well prepared. It's still a little chilly for me to sit outside for any length of time so I'm looking forward to slightly warmer weather.
