Bonfire Night

It was Bonfire night on the 5th but the Rotary Club in Elgin are having their Bonfire tonight. I'm having to share these photos from July, when Ruth and I went to Kew Gardens for Summer Swing, as the Fuji is rubbish at night time shots (even with batteries that work).
A whole night just to remember Guy Fawkes who in 1605 tried to blow up the Houses of Parliament in London. He obvioulsy failed and was hung, drawn and quartered in 1606. Wow they were brutal in those days.

To celebrate King James' escape from assassination Londoners were encouraged to light bonfires so long as "this testemonye of joy be careful done without any danger or disorder"
This is a tradition that has continued over the years and there were rhymes and songs made up too.
Remember, remember the fifth of November
The Gunpowder treason and plot,
I know of no reason
Why the gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot.
